Source: Russian airlines may halt charter flights to Turkey

MOSCOW, Apr 10 (PRIME) -- The Federal Air Transport Agency has sent a telegram to Russian airlines about possible suspension of charter flights to Turkey due to a difficult political situation in the country, an industry source told PRIME on Monday.

Representatives of the Russian tourism industry told PRIME that they had no information about the possible suspension.

In 2016, Turkey’s tourism industry faced a serious crisis due to a terrorist threat and worsened relations with Russia. Charter flights between Russia and Turkey were disrupted for nine months after a Russian Su-24 aircraft was shot down by Turkey over Syria in November 2015.

Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered resumption of charter flights to Turkey in late June 2016 after a letter from Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The flights were resumed in September.
